This is a story of Anne and Gideon.  A story of the matching of two minds, hearts, and souls.

Their story began at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.  She was in a sorority.  He was in a rock band.  As philosophy majors they shared many classes together and got to know each other better as friends before either admitted to having huge crushes on the other.  Their friendship grew over long discussions about Hellenistic Christian philosophies and the like, and pretty soon so did their love for each other. The two became inseparable.  When it was time to graduate, each had been accepted to ridiculously good graduate school programs (because they’re both ridiculously smart. I mean, so smart that it’s very possible that their children will be smarter than the Google founders.) but it was bittersweet because Anne was headed to Georgetown and Gideon to Washington University in St. Louis.  That’s 835 miles apart.  For three years.

The dreaded long distance relationship- a challenge for any couple.

Could it work? Should they try?

To quote the most famous philosopher I know,  “Do or Do not, There is no try.”

So they DID.  They took turns flying to each other.  They talked over Skype almost every day- and when they weren’t talking they would just leave Skype on and “study together.” HOW cute is that??

They made it through two years and when they found out that Anne could spend her third year in school studying from anywhere, they realized they couldn’t bear to be apart any longer.  It was a no brainer.  So Gideon bought a lot of flowers, got down on one knee, and proposed to Anne.

She said, “YES!” and they’ll be married this August in Anne’s hometown of Miami among family and friends who love them dearly.

In his book “The Four Loves,” C.S. Lewis describes four basic kinds of human love- affection, friendship, romance, and the love of God.  When I spent the day photographing them on Georgetown’s campus, it was cool to see all four loves between them. I hope I captured that in my photos.
